Cardiff Racing 12 Days of Christmas

To commemorate the arrival of the new parts, a new song:

"On the ____ day of Christmas, Cardiff Racing gave to me __________

12 Crankcase Gaskets
11 Weeks Have Gone
10 Resits for Matt
9 Miles per Gallon
8 Months till Silverstone
7 Comedy Comments
6 Shiny Chassis Panels
5 Chassis Benders!!!
4 Wet Cut Tyres
3 Working Starters
2 Brand New Fuel Pumps
and an engine that came in a box"

Some presents to go under the FS tree...

Christmas has come early this year it seems for us at Cardiff Racing, we've received some shiny new deliveries in preparation for the build of CR07! First of all, the new engine has arrived and this time it's a brand new Aprilia rather than rebuilt or second hand ones we've had in the past, we're still waiting for engine #2 to show up but hopefully that will be sometime soon! The engines still need to be run in I believe so that will probably take place on the dyno at some stage.

The second new and shiny addition to the paddock is the rather lovely looking chassis, once again made with the aluminium honeycomb, the assembly is going to begin sometime soon. I will say this though: some assembly is required! Keep watching the website for updates, and my apologies for the terrible photos that my phone produces...

Testing - Week 11

Had a great day testing this week. Got some impressive times in and getting consistent too. Overall were happy with the results. TC working nicely, engine remarkably reliable and got some couple of drivers in there too. Hopefully we'll have equally as impressive test days in the near future too . . .

Carlsberg don't do Formula Student test days . . but if they did we would've at least gone . . .

On a better note our Christmas Meal was lovely! It wasn't what we thought it would be, but nonetheless an awesome meal! Thanks to everyone except Ben Comana for adhering to the smart/casual dress code. For gods sake even Griff looked mildly smart!

Thanks, and if I don't see some of you in the next two days have a lovely Christmas and a happy new year and see you in 2011 for what hopes to be a good year!

Cheers,

Dewi

Xmas Meal

Hi everyone, just a quick message to say that I've booked our christmas meal for Tuesday. It'll be in Salt n Pepper steak house on City Road at 7:30. If people can just leave a comment on here or text me just to confirm you're coming I would be very grateful. We were thinking of doing posh dress but some people can't be bothered so I think we'll stick to smart/casual. Cheers, and see you all then!

nah...no testing

Had same problems as last night as well as the injectors not working so testing was a no go again.

Also, even if car had been fine, we couldn't have gone as the "Pick-Up" was unavailable

Testing? hmm...maybe not

Right after yesterday's update we prepped the car today and fitted the "plug-and-play" g-sensor.

However, we tried starting car this evening and even after warming engine up to over 30 degrees it still wouldnt start and sounded very "weak" and didnt sound anywhere near close to starting.

Looking at the rpm, it only seemed to rev up to about 300-400rpm and as result not crank flywheel over fully.

Chris also noticed that battery voltage as dropping very low (9V) even when jump pack was on 3 which may explain the slow starter but no explanation atm for why voltage dropping. This combined with weather tomoz means probability to going testing is probably quite low but will still try.

Pass by tomorrow morning and you'll hopefully see an empty space where car usually is as its gone testing but more than likely it be in paddock with a few of us scratching heads.

Testing

Hopefully going to go testing this Wednesday (8/12/2010) but again that will be weather permitting. As of moment it meant to be clear day but cold which means very cold at Llandow.

Just check with people in paddock tomorrow or first thing Wednesday morning if interested in going. People with cars will especially be appreciated.

1st Post and update

Hey just thought I'd try this out with a broad update on recent things for those who haven't heard:

* The car sort of starts, sometimes, and although there were originally thought to be some problems with the clutch as it wasnt engaging we're now hoping that this is simply down to it binding with oil and that running the car will free it up.

* The dyno engine is now working so congratulations to all that worked on it.
* Slowly but surely it is being mapped for starting and running but still dosen't really start until the engine temperature is above 30 degrees so still having to warm it up with the air gun.
* Also we do seem to be having problems with alternator, battery or voltage regulator at the moment. Speak to Lee or Chris Drew for more information.

* Chassis has been ordered and should be in before Christmas so if anyone wants to get involved then I'm sure the chassis team would welcome the help.

* Eleven of us went karting tonight and think everyone had good laugh and for future reference, kart 6 is apparently the kart to aim to get.

* Most importantly, the Christmas tree is up and pretty much finished; just waiting for the lights to be programmed.

* Finally, good work on the website Chris, still a work in progress but hopefully the about, car and contacts section should be finished soon.

Karting 26/10/10

Formula Student went karting on Wednesday to TeamSport in Cardiff, some really competive times were put in and I think we can all agree we had a fantastic time. Fastest time of the day went to Ben Comana, congratulations, I hope you enjoy your 'trophy'! Many thanks to Dewi for organising things, hopefully we will all be going karting again several times over the course of the next year, so make sure you get your name down and join in!
